WBUQ interviews band to promote Vote Jam 2000

Student band plays CD, promotes student political involvement

BLOOMSBURG--In an effort to further promote Vote Jam 2000, WBUQ interviewed a local band scheduled to play at the event.

Station Public Affairs Director Kimberly Cherry and her radio partners interviewed Left to Stand on Sunday during their regularly schedule 4 to 6 p.m. show. Left to Stand , is the last band scheduled to play at the Vote Jam, to be held on Tuesday, April 18 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

"WBUQ is pleased to help sponsor such a worthwhile campus event," Cherry said.

"As part of the station's shift towards community-oriented programming, Vote Jam provides WBUQ a unique opportunity for listeners to get involved in the political process."

In addition to the live music, there will be a 90-minute debate between university democrats and republicans. There will also be speeches from local and state politicians, university professors and student leaders.

Left to Stand is one of four live bands to be featured at Vote Jam. Before Left to Stand begins its metal stylings, Box of Joy, Noos and the Gimps will be entertaining listeners.

Left to Stand is currently promoting its CD. Portions of the CD were played on the station during Left to Stand's radio interview on Sunday, Cherry said. In addition to Vote Jam 2000, Left to Stand performed at last semester's "Ballroom Blitz" which featured two other local bands and national recording artists Overmars and The Twelve.

Vote Jam 2000 is sponsored by the BU Program Board, The Voice, WBUQ, International Radio and Television Societies, Alpha Epsilon Rho, the History Club, and Phi Alpha Theta. For more information, contact Vote Jam coordinator Linda Charyton at 389-8228.
