WBUQ opens the airways for another operating season

WBUQ 91.1 FM, Bloomsburg University's radio station, has announced the beginning of its spring operating season. WBUQ, the Revolution, is a completely student-run radio station and operates 10 AM to 2 AM, seven days a week.

WBUQ has been off the air since mid-December for the semester break. The station's first show, Nicole Rafferty, opened up the airways Thursday morning with an 80s music show. Nearly 75 fellow student DJs will follow Rafferty throughout the programming week. Thirteen students make up WBUQ's Executive Staff who are in charge of the daily operations of the station.

Bloomsburg University professors are also included in WBUQ's programming schedule. Dr. Maria Teresita Mendoza-Enright, a Mass Communications professor, airs an hour-long award-winning program "Echoes of Our World," from 8-9 PM on Tuesdays. Dr. George Agbango, a Political Science professor, airs an issue forum on Tuesday evenings following Dr. Mendoza. Dr. Michael Pugh, a Chemistry professor, spins an oldies show from 8-9 PM on Wednesdays.

WBUQ's programming schedule includes alternative, classical, metal, RPM, ska, and urban music, as well as some talk shows.

"The wide variety of music is just one of the ways we satisfy the listening interests of everyone on the campus as well as in the community," said Raina Lubert, Public Affairs Director for WBUQ.

WBUQ's Remote Director, Bryan Klementisz, has organized community-oriented remote broadcasts including blood drives and benefit concerts for the Big Brothers/Sisters organization. Klementisz also represents WBUQ at the YMCA every Saturday night, playing music for children ages 12-15.

The station also features hourly news and weather reports, as well as a community notebook that announces campus and community events.

Interested listeners can contact the station by e-mail at wbuq@bloomu.edu or by phone at (570) 389-4686. Listeners can also call WBUQ's open request line at (570) 389-2891. Online station information can be reached on WBUQ’s web site at [http://orgs.bloomu.edu/wbuq/].
