Quite a happening place with lots of bars and restaurants. Good live music (usually blues) is played, but there's typically a cover charge to get into the bars.
Often at night, they'll rope off the streets so that you can walk around without fear of getting plowed over.
Huge draught bar in dowtown Memphis. Aboout 50 beers on tap, yet everyone keeps ordering Blue Moon (a Coors product). Monday night is pint night with pints at $2.50. Wednesday is logo glass night. You drink the beer o' the week, you get the glass. This place gets really crowded.
Excellent "wet" bbq in downtown Memphis right next to Beale St. Just tables and chairs and some great food. Open kitchen, decent beer selection (Shiner Bock!)
Try the dry BBQ at this downtown place, part of a local chain. The dry BBQ has a great rub on it and is an interesting change from the BBQ with all of the sauce.
It's American cuisine with a southern style. I had some great seafood (sea bass) and the wine list was excellent. Only open Tues through Saturday, though you can probably get a seat walking in Tues-Thurs.
Definitely get the catfish dinner. It's a cornmeal crust with some very tasty catfish, hush puppies (excellent!) and homemade fries. The po-boys were excellent as well.
